4/12/2023 0 Comments Cursorsense vs reddit![]() Since High Sierra I think, macOS has made it so the media key plays/pauses the last audio source you were using - including web media such as YouTube. This is quite obscure, but macmediakeyforwarder is pretty essential for me. Currently it’s completely free too and the dev is very active. I’ve even switched completely from Alfred because of several features I think are excellent. I really like Raycast as a spotlight alternative. It also has some of the best Windows-like window snapping (drag windows to the left, right, too make it half the screen etc). For example I use CMD + right click to minimise windows using my mouse. I realise this is a popular app, but to complete the external mouse experience on macOS, I also use bettertouchtool. It also does basically everything else cursorsense does (minus chords). Middle click dragging (both vertically and horizontally). Smooth mouse wheel scrolling (which can be fine tuned) and 2. Whilst cursorsense is good (I particularly liked the chord feature), I prefer smooze for two specific reasons: 1. It's a calculator that's actually fun to use! I didn't include it above because it seems to be fairly popular around here already, but it's a really neat "calculator" app which can process natural language and do a lot of really powerful conversions as well. It can still be used without a subscription, but I believe certain features are locked. I have a lifetime subscription to their paid tier, though I probably wouldn't pay monthly (or yearly or whatever) if I had to subscribe now. It works for all platforms, including the web. Pocket Casts is my podcast player of choice. This is great for photographers, other content creators, and web developers who want to save space while maintaining image quality. ![]() In my own testing, it can easily make files over 60% smaller without losing any perceptible quality. It improves image compression to save space while maintaining the same visual quality as the originals. Optimage is an amazing image compression and resizing tool. It also does compression, but I haven't used it for that so far. I have it set up to automatically decompress files and put the contents in my Downloads folder while deleting the compressed file. zip or other compressed files so much nicer. Jetison makes it easy to eject external drives, app images, etc. Then you can navigate somewhere else and easily grab and place the collected files wherever you choose.ĮasyFind is just a great, easy-to-use file search app. It creates an always-on-top window where you can drag as much stuff as you want. You can grab a file and shake the mouse to activate it. ![]() This is a must for me since the default Mac mouse acceleration was driving me crazy when using an external mouse rather than the touchpad.ĭropover is great for copying and pasting files. Here they are in alphabetical order:ĬursorSense allows fine-grained control over mouse speed and acceleration. I've found this sub to be extremely helpful and figured I would pay it forward by recommending some apps I found that I didn't see mentioned here (or may be mentioned, but rarely), but which I am really enjoying. I recently got my first Mac PC (an M1 Macbook Air) and have been scouring this sub and elsewhere for essential and useful applications.
